The pot of gold at the end of this weekend's culinary rainbow was this gorgeous celebration. Guests gathered in the garden (avoiding the showers) and partied in the kitchen (always the heart of the best parties) and were warmed up with our delicious taster portions of bowl food, an unusual alternative to a buffet. We were delighted to be part of it. Happy birthday Gail.
Slowly braised Asian beef with hot and sour salad.
Courgette and rice filo pastries with green salad.
Chicken Mughlai with buttered naan.
Chef at work.
Individual Eton Mess.

For a sensational Saturday, in pictures
Sorry for the delay, we're a whole two weeks behind. Staggered that that is even possible but it's been a busy old time here. After our last Saturday supper we've been in hiding, planning and preparing for our next events and celebrating a birthday and some precious time as a family. If you're looking for some Summery inspiration to chase away the rain however, we may have the answer here. Thank you to all those who gathered at our Table now a wee while ago, we loved it.

Menu for the weekend
This weekend, we're trying something different, two groups with very similar dietary requirements and definitely no mushrooms, if we had a table large enough, we'd be tempted to have them all together! We don't, so we're going to serve the same delicious menu instead:
To start
Last of the Summer tomato tarts with {or without (v)} crab salad
To follow
Sea bream {or Paneer (v)} with Tandoori butter, crushed saffron potatoes and coconut green beans
To finish
Strawberry shortbread cardamom pots with spiced white chocolate and rose sponge

The finest of the Festival
It's really quite something that you can go from this
to this in just a few footsteps and if you are unaware of how, then I'd highly recommend a visit to the wonderful Pommery Champagne Bar at The Signet Library.
We were treated to the champagne afternoon tea with perfectly moreish sandwiches, lightly spiced scones with jam and cream, parfait, chocolate, petite carrot cakes and still more fruity sweet indulgences like bakewells and jellies. If you're not quite as greedy as us, staff will most helpfully bring you a box to takeaway. You cannot fail to be in awe of the beautiful interior and historic building, you are surrounded by towering shelves of ancient books (it's a working law library), beautiful pieces of furniture and awesome gilded ceilings and murals. It was completed in 1822 to a design by the esteemed architect Robert Reid.
Whether it's to recharge and refuel on the amazing selection of food including fine Scottish seafood or the signature Pommery burger, a quick stop pre or post show for a glass of champagne it's a charming and sophisticated place to escape the Festival rush whilst still being able to hear the cheering crowds and street performers through the window. There are also limited spaces left for the special Fringe events - Chocolates, Whiskies and Cocktails, Single Malt Sundays and maybe if you're very, very lucky, a seat for the Military Tattoo and Dinner Package.
Open daily from 12 noon until Monday 25th August. Don't miss it. You're in for a treat.
